My favourite shot of the day

I hardly do product shots, well, I’ve only occasionally done simple stuffs like toys, fruits shots and so on, but I could say this is my first time shooting jewelry professionally, there were  a few challenges like getting rid off  the dusty stuffs laying on the ring and around it and shooting at such closed up detailed shots, some scratches may occur as well. Also, the ring is reflective, it might have some of my own reflection or things that I don’t want reflected in there. Lastly, not to forget, choosing my preferred surface.  These are a little challenges which I manage to overcome.

All in all, it took me quite some time to get everything right, from lighting, to placing the ring and getting the shot right bringing out the best of the ring. I’m quite satisfied with the shots I get.

The highlights of the day was our beautiful canvas print, which drew the most attention to every one who passed by. We’ve got couples who were very very interested to get this lovely print to hang at their walls. Most importantly this print is about you, your sweet memory of your special day.

The session was very enjoyable whereby the owner of the restaurant was pretty good with food decoration too. So, along with my faithful assistant as usual, the owner and us shared some thoughts on food decorations. We sure do feel like a make up artist for the food.

Apart from that, we get a few little chances to taste the food prepared, and it tasted really good. I will go along with comments of the food.

Here are some really interesting ones.

My personal favorite,

The Shitake mushroom from some local highlands, now the special thing about this dish is the mushroom which has a really good soft crunchy feel and unlike those dried mushroom we always eat in our chinese dishes which has too strong mushroom smell and are like rubber, these guys are pretty well balanced both in taste and texture. Even those who never eat mushroom would fall in love with it.

Now I’m not sure what is this called but its good, its a mix of pear and green apple with some…hmm…look at the picture below, boiled at long hours to get the real good taste.

Well, there are alot more on the menu, but I’m just shrinking it down to these few to share.

By now, you would be asking where the hell is this restaurant?

Its located at Egate penang, next to Sushi King. The name of the restaurant is called “Spring”.

Anyways, its worth a try. Don’t forget to taste their desserts.

Well, its time for me to polish my off-shoe flash technique I learnt in the past week. As you all may know me, I always shoot under natural lighting. This time around, i’ll be using my faithful SB900 for a little flashy stuff. It was 6:30pm, and I’ve got a model, without much hesitation, my natural instinct was of course to shoot her potraiture having the sun setting as background under the beautiful sky.

Then we head for an empty abandoned ground behind my house in my hometown Kuantan.

As it was 6:30pm, I didn’t have much time to shoot, all I wanted was a simple shot, with a nice sun setting as background, with a properly exposed model, with a little flaring from the setting sun for the mood in the shot, in an abandoned urban area.

I for one, love to attend this event to see , Tzu chi’s charity work and performance done by all their in house volunteers who spent loooooonng hours practising despite their busy schedule for 3 months. Of course, also their well planned lighting and stages. I wish I’m one of the main photographers down the stage. i bet it’ll definitely be awesome!

I’ll definitely be back for more if there is an advance flash photography class. Here is two assignments for the day, nothing major, we were fooling around with 2 or 3 flashes and controlling them properly.

Seems like its time for me to grab more SB900…

Besides having always shooting my work in natural lighting, i am always thinking how to bring my photography work to a different level by using flashes, so i decided to attend the class. Besides, the price for the class was reasonable. The trainer was Andrew Boey, the class was no ordinary class, andrew conducted the class in a very interesting way with lots of fun and laughters in the meantime sharing his experience, sharing some flash photography techniques, and some basic flash photography, his 2 hours of theory gave me alot of insight about flash photography with addition of 2 hours of practical model shoot.
