The really unfortunate thing I’ve noticed in my third trip there is that, semporna and the island around is getting more and more polluted. Waste plastic were the worst enemy, maggie mee plastics, plastic bottles, junk food plastics, plastic bags were scattered over the place in some of the island where there are people staying. Its really saddens me to know that our environment will be badly damaged within these few years.

Anyways, here is the main reason i’m heading back there for the 3rd time.

In this latest blog entry, I’d like to show you my little trip to a small town called Sungai Lembing. Its about a 40 minutes drive away from kuantan. Sungai Lembing was once a very famous place from 1880 to 1970s for its underground tin mining with a total tunnel length of 322km. I used to live in this little town when I was a kid, my grandpa and a few uncles were miners too.

Well, me and family started our journey around 5:30am from Kuantan to hike up sungai lembing hill for its famous panoramic scenery, upon reaching Sungai Lembing found out that its raining and we had to delay our hike up hill. So, I took my time to capture some morning scenery of sungai lembing town before sunrise. Around 7:15am, the weather was clearing up, so we started our hike despite missing the sunrise.

Nevertheless, the view up the hill was spectacular.

Scenic walk down the hill, as you can see there is a river flowing across the town is the reason why this town is called sungai lembing. For readers who do not know malay, “sungai” stands for river, while “lembing” stands for spear. Well, I dont know why its called spear river, but its just a name.

A little add-on to my trip back to kuantan is our beautiful Teluk Cempedak Beach. I went there wanting to capture the beautiful east coast sunrise, but again, unfortunately, it was yet another cloudy day. So, i picked up a different subject of the day.

Here are some of the shots of the night I dropped by. The lightings the view is just magnificent. However, they only turned on the lights around kuan yin statue, so I didn’t really get the chance to cover the whole Kek Lok Si yet. Coming chinese new year will definitely attract alot of shutterbugs to capture this maginicent statue of penang. I for one will definitely be back during this chinese new year. Here are more info about the lightings on period during coming Chinese New year.
